Livingston County, we need you tonight!

Members of the Livingston County music community,

I’ve been presenting shows here in Livingston County for 8 years now, under various names.  We all know that things have slowed considerably in the past year in our area.  We’re all excited to see the Opera House shows thrive and do well, and also that the Opera House is booked pretty solidly with wedding receptions and other events.  Because of this, the Opera House is a place that we can only do shows at maybe once every month or two, which isn’t enough to sustain and foster a thriving music community.  

I think we’ve all agreed that doing a lot of shows in the lobby of the Hartland Performing Arts Center isn’t ideal either.  So over the past year, we’ve been searching for a new place to do shows.  A few months ago, the owner of Great Escape contacted us about potentially using a new space they had created in the back of their building for shows.  On weekend nights, they have been using the space as a “teen club”, where they bring in a DJ.  Apparently, it’s been relatively popular.  

Ron and I checked out the space, and it’s pretty cool.  It’s a small area, cut off from the rest of the building.  We can charge separate admission, so if a family wants to enjoy the rest of the amenities of the place, without coming to the show, they can.  

Most importantly, it’s small, DIY, and cheap!  If tonight’s show goes well, we’ll probably start bringing a lot of cool bands to Livingston County again!  That’s where you come in.  I need to know that you’re out there.  I need to know that you want this.  I rarely beg support of you and ask you to come pay for a show anymore.  We’re at a point with Fusion to where if you’re a fan of the band, you come, and if you’re not, some of you try new things, but if you don’t, I’m not here to beg you.  

But tonight, we need your support.  If you don’t have plans, please come to Great Escape tonight, and show your support.  I don’t care if you don’t like any of the bands that are playing.  If you long for the days that Silence the Wake and Bottle Fight The World and Island View Drive and a million other bands played Livingston County every weekend, this is your chance to step up and make that happen!  And if you’re too young to know who any of these bands are, but you want to see local music in your community every weekend, now is your chance to tell us that!

The go-kart track will be open.  There’s putt putt and skeeball and whirlyball.  And most importantly, there’s five bands who work very hard at their craft, from this area, that want to play for you.  It’s just $7.00.  Come out, show us that you want Livingston County to be one of the hottest music scenes in Michigan again, and we hope to see you tonight!
