Dan Weger submitted this song, but didn’t use the ask us button, so if my answer looks weird, then that’s why.

First of all, “my take on the overall sound of one of our songs” is the same as asking me “what I think of this song”!  But I gave it a listen anyway, and will do my best to not have a vague answer!

I’ll start with what I like.  The bluesy guitar licks are cool.  That’s already stuck in my head.  If you’re looking to write a pop song, you’ve got the formula down.  It’s short, sweet, and to the point.

What could be improved?  The lyrics are pretty repetitive, and the vocals are a bit more monotone than I like to hear.  During the verses, the vocals could stand to be pushed a little bit farther forward.  I’m not a recording guru, but I couldn’t really hear what was being said over the drums during the verses.  The last thing was something that I could see visually on soundcloud, with the illustration of the soundwaves.  There’s very little in the way of dynamic changes in the song.  Solidly loud throughout.  Build towards something.  Slow it down at points.  Quiet leads to loud.

Anyway, I’ve said enough.  Cool song!  That guitar lick will be in my head all night.

Band review

Hello! I am currently recoding the debut album for my band Alley View ( Belding MI ) and I would love to get your take on the overall sound of one of our songs! I want it to compete with most other stuff out right now and its always super hard to critique your own stuff. any advice you have would be great!
